Based on “The Wanderer above a Sea of Fog” by Casper David Friedrich, as well as the Elbe Sandstone Mountains that influenced him and many other artists of the time, a cultured man stands on top of a peak looking upon the eternity of nature. When he’s confronted by a manifestation of his thoughts, he responds with a memento, the content of which is up for the viewer to decide.
The fog is actually a practical element; we shot the fog off of dry ice at a high frame rate, slowed it down, keyed out the black, and composited it throughout the landscape. Despite the avid of technology, using old school smoke-and-mirrors still goes a long way!
